I needed a DVD writer to replace an older one. I chose the HP and I'm glad I did. It installs easily and burns at a faster rate than I thought it would. I've only had it a few days and I've burned a number of DVDs and some CDs without a problem. I recommend this writer for it's speed and price.

Strengths:	FAST! Reads all discs I've loaded and records them without hesitation. A slight 'rumble' at 20X but nothing bad.

Burning speed is amazing for an external hard drive. Lightscribe is a nice extension. but had difficult to install nero software not recognise the serial #, HP seems to have good knowledge base on their website but I never needed it

I had my notebook combo drive damaged. As I need the drive regularly thus opted for this one and found that it was a good decesion. Technically HP is a good brand too to trust.

Strengths:	Has lightscribe which works well with my HP/Compaq laptop.
Weaknesses:	This dvd writer works well with desktops but may have issues with laptops.

I would not buy it again.It has proved to be useless since it creates dvd movies with errors no matter what kind of dvd creator software I use.Help from HP was lousy.

Strengths:	Fast and has Lightscribe. Lightscribe media is still a bit pricey so haven't use it yet. Very good price. HP means quality.
Weaknesses:	Somewhat noisy (probably due to the high speed) and fairly bulky. No Firewire. Mediocre software package

Bought to replace a Plextor PX760A. The Plextor was supposed to be 'top of the line' but it when you put a CD or DVD in the drive brought my PC to its knees. This drive has no issues like that. After several hundred burns so far not a single coaster
